Women\u2019s Aid <\/span>responds to the decision by MP\u2019s to reject <\/span>exempting small charities from NICs rise<\/span><\/h1>\n

Head of External Affairs at Women’s Aid, Isabelle Younane said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Small charities providing life-saving support to women and child survivors of abuse need adequate government backing to continue their frontline work. We are deeply disappointed by MPs\u2019 decision to block a motion that would have protected the smallest and most financially precarious charities from the devastating impact of the employer national insurance contributions (NICs) tax increases.<\/p>\n

Many of our member services, including specialist \u2018by and for\u2019 VAWG organisations, already operate on shoestring budgets. Now, they face additional annual costs ranging from \u00a38,000 to over \u00a3187,000. This reckless decision places them on the sharpest edge of this crisis\u2014forcing service cuts and, in some cases, closure of the vital services women and children in need rely on.<\/p>\n

This move directly undermines the government\u2019s election pledge to halve violence against women and girls (VAWG). It strips critical frontline services of the support they need to continue their life-saving work amid a domestic abuse national emergency. We call on the government to reverse this decision in the upcoming multi-year spending review and provide urgent relief from the NICs rise for specialist \u2018by and for\u2019 VAWG services, to save lives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
