Yesterday, Sara\u2019s father Urfan Sharif and stepmother Beinash Batool were convicted and sentenced to life in prison for her murder.<\/p>\n<p>Sara\u2019s death is a devastating reminder of the cost of ignoring the severity and urgency of domestic abuse against children. Our child protection systems are failing, with children being put in direct harm by an outdated family court presumption that overlooks the dynamic of domestic abuse and actions of perpetrators and does not align with the legal recognition of children as victims in their own right.<\/p>\n<p>We are in solidarity with all victims of domestic abuse and will continue to campaign for urgently needed reform to protect the lives of children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women\u2019s Aid responds to the Sara Sharif verdict We extend our deepest sympathy to Sara Sharif\u2019s mother and all those who loved her, we are heartbroken by the news and cannot imagine the pain of her loss.
